Nose Aesthetics – Rhinoplasty
Since the nose is in the middle of the face, it is the organ that draws the most attention when looking at the person’s face, and has important functions such as breathing and smelling. Every nose has personal characteristics, even small changes to the nose can create significant changes in the appearance of the face. People who are not satisfied with the shape of their nose can change their nose shape with interventions to their noses.
Aim
The understanding of aesthetics has changed over time. Earlier, more upturned, aesthetic noses were preferred, but today, more natural noses that are more compatible with facial lines are preferred. The aim is to create beautiful noses that are compatible with the wishes of the person, compatible with the facial features, and fully fulfill their functions (breathing, smelling).
Before Surgery
At what age can it be done?
It is generally applied more frequently in younger age groups. However, good results can be obtained in patients in their 60s. Although it varies according to the development of the person, the generally accepted age is 17 for girls and 18 for boys.
first meeting
In the first meeting, the aim is to listen to your wishes about your nose and to evaluate the compatibility of these requests with your face. During this examination, health problems that prevent the functions of your nose will also be evaluated and solutions will be offered to you. During this interview, photographs of your face are taken from various angles and changes are made on the photographs in the computer environment, providing an environment where the patient and doctor can understand each other correctly, expectations and results can be agreed upon.
Custom design
The nose is one of the most characteristic areas of the face. Instead of making the same nose for everyone, creating a nose that is suitable for the person’s own characteristics and compatible with other favorite parts of the face will make the person and his doctor happier. At the same time, since the nose needs to be designed individually, solutions and additional interventions (such as chin, lips) that will integrate your nose and face with other parts of your face are presented to you.
What to do before surgery
For safe surgery, preoperative blood tests, ECG and chest X-ray are performed and you are evaluated by the anesthesiologist in terms of anesthesia risks together with the analyzes.
Operation
Depending on the wishes of the doctor and the person, it is performed open or closed according to the suitability of the nose. The duration of the operation may vary depending on the procedures to be performed on the nose. The type of surgery and the technical equipment to be used (such as piezo, tour, microsaw) are determined according to the deformities of the nose and the wishes of the person, prepared before the surgery and used in the necessary parts during the surgery. At the end of the surgery, if necessary, tampons are applied to the inside and outside of the nose according to the procedures performed on your nose. Necessary parts are taped.
Postoperative
Will I be able to breathe through my nose after the surgery?
You can breathe through your nose as soon as you come out of the surgery. With the ducted silicone pads placed on your nose when necessary, your airways will be open from the end of the surgery.
Will there be pain when removing the tampon?
The tampons used after the surgery are silicone and channeled. Unlike the cloth tampons used in the past, it does not stick to the tissue, it slides off easily. Therefore, although pain is affected by the individual’s pain threshold, it is not an unexpected situation.
What should I pay attention to after the operation?
In the post-operative period, you should sleep with your head up with at least 1.5 pillows. The reason for this is that your head is higher than your body and the edema improves faster.
Moisten your nasal passages by using the hypertonic sprays recommended by your doctor 3-4 times a day. Dry crusting can prevent you from breathing through your nose. Applying sprays and moisturizing creams will help reduce crusting.
It is necessary that you do not consume hard and hot foods that require chewing effort in the first week, in order not to damage your nose and to reduce edema in a shorter time.
Cold gels to be applied around the nose and over the eyes for 5-10 minutes every hour for the first 2 days reduce the swelling that may occur and help it to heal quickly.
You can eat 4 hours after the operation. For the first days, it is recommended to choose soft foods for your comfort.
Protect yourself from direct sun rays for 2 months, use sunscreen when you go out in the sun, otherwise, your sensitive nose skin may become stained.
You should not use glasses for 2 months after the operation.
It is necessary to stay away from sports that require effort in the first month after the surgery.
After the surgery, the plastic heat-formable plasters placed on the nose are removed by your doctor at the end of the 1st week.
